Rogers Just Grew a Restaurant Row, and Main Street Isn't Part of It

A year ago, if you lived in Rogers and wanted a sit-down dinner without driving toward Maple Grove or Elk River, your options were thin. That's no longer true, but the way it changed is worth noticing. The growth didn't happen on Main Street, where the farmers market sets up every week and the city projects a movie against the side of a building every August. It happened along the retail corridor near South Diamond Lake Road, in a run of projects that landed close together and fast.

Since May 2025, four different restaurant concepts have opened or broken ground within roughly a mile of each other on that side of town. In the same stretch, the town's actual civic calendar, the market, the summer movie nights, the community park, hasn't moved an inch. That split tells you something real about where Rogers is putting its commercial energy and where it's keeping its identity, and it's useful to know both halves if you live here.

The Block set the tone in the old Muni building

The first domino was The Block Food + Drink, which opened May 19, 2025 at 21400 John Milless Drive, the address longtime residents will remember as the old Muni bar. The building didn't get a light refresh. The electrical was gutted, the plumbing was gutted, and only the four exterior walls of the original shell survived the renovation.

The restaurant is owned by Craft & Crew Hospitality, the group behind Pub 819 in Hopkins, Stanley's and The Howe in Minneapolis, Duke's on 7 in Minnetonka, the Galaxy Drive-in in St. Louis Park, and The Bar Draft House in Hastings. What made Rogers different for the company wasn't the menu, it was the decision. Rogers marked the first time Craft & Crew had ever duplicated one of its own concepts in a second location rather than building something new from scratch. That's a small operational detail, but it says the group looked at Rogers and bet on repetition instead of reinvention, which is usually a sign a market has already proven itself.

The restaurant also built a year-round heated dog patio, called the Pawtio, that seats around 110 guests and comes with its own pet menu. Co-owner Luke Derheim described the goal plainly, saying the aim was for it to be "a neighborhood restaurant that people can consistently come out to."

Then three more arrived almost on top of each other

Once The Block proved out the location, the pace picked up. Within about fifteen months, three more concepts followed, each with a different reason for choosing Rogers.

Two of these are part of statewide expansion waves that would have happened somewhere in the Twin Cities suburbs regardless of Rogers specifically. Dave's Hot Chicken arrived in Minnesota in 2023 and has at least six new locations opening across the state in 2026 alone, so Rogers landing one is more about timing than a unique bet on this particular town. Crisp & Green's 22nd Minnesota store is similarly part of a brand that has treated the state as its home base since 2016.

Ray J's is the more interesting signal. The developer specifically pursued a city-owned lot in Rogers for its visibility and site amenities, then built out programming that goes well past a normal restaurant footprint: a full-service bar, an outdoor bar, a dining room, bar dining, a performance stage, a private dining room, a golf simulator suite, and pull tabs. Combined with the pickleball court and the future pad site planned for additional retail, it reads less like a restaurant opening and more like a small entertainment district taking shape in one location.

Put together, what's happened on that side of Rogers in the past year isn't just more places to eat. It's more reasons to spend an entire evening without leaving town: dinner, a round on a golf simulator, a dog patio, a pickleball match. A year ago, an evening out from Rogers usually meant driving somewhere else. That's changing on this one corridor specifically.

Main Street kept doing exactly what it's always done

None of this touched the other half of Rogers. The Rogers Farmers Market still sets up in the Rogers Event Center parking lot at 12716 Main Street, near the Veterans Memorial at Lions Central Park, with about 20 vendors selling produce, crafts, and goods, all of it required to be grown or made within 50 miles of the city. Live music and a rotating community booth are still part of the format, same as they've always been.

The city's Movies in the Park series ran on the same schedule it always does, four Wednesday nights in August at the 21st Century Bank Event Center, also on Main Street. Three of those nights, August 6, 13, and 20, have already come and gone as of this week. One is left on the calendar, August 27, and residents had until August 23 to vote on which park and film would close out the series.

Night to Unite, the city's annual community safety event, happened on schedule August 4. None of it shifted, expanded, or contracted to make room for what's happening a mile away. The farmers market didn't add vendor stalls because Crisp & Green opened. The movie series didn't get a sponsor tie-in with the new restaurant row. Main Street is still doing the same civic job it's always done, and the new commercial growth is happening in a completely separate part of town.

The one road complication this month

If you're planning to check out any of the new spots on the south side of town, there's a detour to know about right now. Fletcher Lane, also known as County Road 116, closed between Territorial Road and Valley Drive starting at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, August 18, 2026. The closure is part of the Fletcher Bypass project, a joint utility installation and street construction effort between the City of Rogers and Hennepin County, and it's expected to stay in place into early September.

The posted detour routes traffic through:

• Territorial Road (CR 159)
• Brockton Lane N (CR 101)
• County Road 30
• Back onto Fletcher Lane (CR 116)

If your normal route to the John Milless Drive or South Diamond Lake Road corridor runs through that stretch, plan on the detour for the next couple of weeks. The city has noted the reopening date could shift depending on weather and construction progress.

What this adds up to if you live here

Rogers right now is really two places running on separate tracks. One is a retail corridor absorbing real investment, group-backed restaurants, entertainment amenities, and enough momentum that a Twin Cities hospitality group broke its own pattern to duplicate a concept here. The other is Main Street, which hasn't changed its rhythm at all, still anchored by the farmers market, the summer movie nights, and Lions Central Park.

Neither one is replacing the other. If you've noticed more construction signage and more unfamiliar logos on one side of town, that's real, and it's recent. If you've also noticed the market and the movie series feel exactly the same as last summer, that's real too. Knowing which half of Rogers you're dealing with, depending on what you're trying to do that day, is the kind of detail that only comes from paying attention to the town as it actually is, not as a category on a map.
